Holistic, Healthy Men (in Hollywood)

Root Whole Body Front Page, increasing energy

Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, LeBron James and other gratuitous name-dropping of the men in Hollywood who take a more natural approach to holistic health.

What makes a man healthy and fit? All too often this conjures up images of tan twelve-packs and hard-core workouts that got them that chiseled, rock hard body. But in this article, we want to give a shout-out to some masculine celebrities who take a holistic approach to their health.

Vegans or vegetarians: Ne-Yo, Tobey Maguire, Jason Mraz, Russell Brand, Ben Stiller, Conan O’Brien, Jason Schwartzman, Brad Pitt, Chris Martin, Anthony Kiedis, Casey Affleck, and Bruce Springsteen.

Meditation: Richard Gere is a practicing Buddhist who since the age of 24 uses daily meditation to help keep his mental and physical health in check. Dr. Oz regularly practices Transcendental Meditation (a type of concentrative meditation where a person focuses on one sight or sound) and has been doing yoga daily for more than 20 years, a ritual he calls ‘the most important health practice I have adopted’. Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons has said that meditation “has given me energy, strength, health, wisdom, and access to my own inner stillness, inner silence, inner bliss. It is my connection to myself; it is my connection to the universe.”

Yoga: The list is long of yogi male celebrities, including Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James, but Woody Harrelson has recently made the news by admitting to swapping marijuana for yoga to get the same kind of blissful high.

Ozone Therapy: Nick Nolte has spoken about different ways to slow the aging process and stay healthy for as long as possible; he says he tried a controversial treatment involving trioxygen (O3) or ozone, the name for three oxygen molecules bonded together.

The Alexander Technique: Beatles legend Paul McCartney is a fan of the Alexander technique. Not so much a treatment as it is a therapeutic practice, the Alexander technique is a series of movements designed to change balance, movement, breathing and thinking.

Sun Protection: Actor Hugh Jackman has been treated multiple times for skin cancer — and he’s urging fans to stay protected when out under the sun. He can often be found on social media urging people to wear proper sunscreen and protect themselves.

Alternative cancer treatments: Steve Jobs sought out alternative treatments for his pancreatic cancer, including acupuncture, dietary supplements, and juicing.

Reflexology and acupuncture: Metallica’s James Hetfield has said that in order to get through the band’s tour, he was trying out some alternative treatments, including reflexology and acupuncture.

So, in addition to being talented, it seems as though these celebrities also have an open mind when it comes to their health – kudos to all of them for helping to make natural or alternative treatments more mainstream!
