“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” – Benjamin Franklin
If we didn’t change the oil in our car for 10 years, some very major, costly issues would come up – the kind that could be easily avoided if we’d just changed the oil. We do regular anti-virus scans to catch the bugs that can crash and wreak havoc on our computers. We schedule these things to ensure the longevity and efficiency of something valuable to us. Well, a doctor’s check-up is one of those things that do just that.
Our cars come with a recommended maintenance schedule. Gentlemen (and ladies!), here’s yours: what to get checked and when. Download the PDF to get a quick look at things you should keep on your radar in your 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.
Say you’re a man in his 40s, get a testosterone screening. 30-something? Get a blood test and urinalysis every three years to stay on top of potential kidney or thyroid issues. It’s not rocket science – it just takes a different mindset. What kind of car are you and how would you take care of it?
Take a tip from Samuel L. Jackson. His One for the Boys campaign raises cancer awareness among men. But it’s not just about cancer. Men’s Health Network (MHN) reports that men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death – heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, accidents, pneumonia and influenza, diabetes, suicide, kidney disease, and chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. All of which, are, in one word, preventable.
What if you Treat Your Body Like Your Favorite Car? If you’re a home owner, or have a family, we bet you take pride in that home, in your family. You take care of your pride and joys right? This article encourages us to treat our bodies like something we’re invested in, to “turn the radio down and listen for the rattles.” And just like your favorite car, you wouldn’t take it to just any mechanic. You do your research, to find the best one, who shares your values, for the right price. The same goes for your health care practitioner. No one likes to hear bad news, but then, you do get to choose the professional who values the same things you value, and shares news to you in a way that supports and empowers you.
If you’re not sure where to start, try a 360 Wellness Consultation to get the information you need to make an informed choice about your whole body health. It’s a first step to finding the right mechanic.
