Seasonal Clearing of Your Body (and Mind)Monday, March 10, 2014 12:17
“The greatest mistake in the treatment of diseases is that there are physicians for the body and physicians for the soul, although the two cannot be separated.” ~Plato
The last few years have seen a massive rise in the popularity of cleanses, including juice cleanses, Ayurvedic and macrobiotic cleanses. Cleansing can be a very effective way to clear out toxins and blockages in the body. They also give your body a chance to rest and rejuvenate. In general, though, most popular cleanses focus heavily on the physical body.
Optimal health and well-being is more than simply the absence of disease. As you go deeper into taking care of yourself, you will naturally want to look for ways to approach your health more holistically. When we heal only parts (such as the physical body), we ignore the greater whole. Our being can become blocked or stagnant in so many ways. A profound cleanse would be one that detoxes the mind, the body, and the spirit. Good for you if your kidneys get flushed – but if your mind is full of anxiety, judgment, or sadness, or if your subtle energy system is blocked (think chi), your being will continue to operate well under its potential.
Your physiology and physical body is not separate from your emotional body, which is not separate from your spiritual body. For example, we may be unhappy about our work because there’s a certain something that’s missing, a higher purpose, a calling we feel is missing. This might cause a certain level of emotional un-comfort, ennui, which over time, slowly builds a constant tension in our muscles, pulling our neck and shoulders out of alignment. To deal with this subtle (or not so subtle!) sense of lack, we may eat in ways which try to fill it. For most of us, this is not new information. But what can we do about it? Where do we start?
Here’s where personal strategy comes in. Root Whole Body is the only local wellness center that truly offers you a place to clarify and strengthen body, mind and spirit, all in one location. And if you don’t know where to start, we’re happy to guide you.
Where else can you gain self-knowledge, explore your subconscious blockages, find a pathway to your higher calling through one-on-one meditation-based therapy? How about a mind-body, food based cleanse including private sessions? Take a yoga class, sit in the sauna, then relax with some organic tea while you wait for your chiropractic appointment, where you can ask about exercises that make alignment sustainable after your adjustments and massages. Acupuncture is not just for relaxation, oh my no! It’s all about bringing harmony to your system, creating pathways, removing blockages so your body is at it’s optimum functioning level (little known fact: in ancient China, a doctor was only paid when their client was healthy, not when they were sick). The dedicated clinicians at Root Whole Body understand the importance of a holistic approach.
So the next time you think of a cleanse, expand your mind past the quick-fix physical cleanses. Go deep. Instead of a quick ‘dusting off’ of the house right before the guests come, think more along the lines of a deeply satisfying spring cleaning involving laundry, vacuuming, de-cluttering, and window washing until your home (or, in this case, your entire being) is something that sparkles and is something that you are proud to live within. Remember, you are your own most sustainable resource – don’t forget to regularly put yourself in the front of the line!
