chiropractic
Whether you’re curious about chiropractic or looking for a new doctor, here’s what you can expect at Root. If thinking about chiropractic conjures up thoughts of: “They’re just back crackers.”; “My doctor advised against it.”; “Can I get hurt?”; or “It’s expensive to go all the time.”; the chiropractic team believes your experiences should be more like: “I thought I’d have to have knee surgery but now I don’t.” Or “I used to suffer from chronic headaches.” Or “My child didn’t have to have tubes put in her ears.” Or “My golf game (or run stride, or tennis serve) got better.”
Bottom line, the reason you go to any doctor is varied but ultimately you want to get better…FAST. Chiropractic care may not fix everything. But it is an excellent, and very safe, approach to whole body health without the use of surgery or drugs. That’s right, it’s safe. And although it might feel a little weird or occasionally uncomfortable, research has demonstrated repeatedly that the risks of serious injury are nearly non-existent. If done right, it should be simple, affordable, and make you feel much better in a short time. It’s a great way to improve performance of your favorite activities and prevent injury. It should help you understand the cause of the problem and what YOU can do to fix that problem vs. just relieving the symptoms. What we hope you discover is that chiropractic is a much more involved medical approach than anything you’ve previously experienced; and you get results.
It’s not just about bones or cracking backs! It’s actually more about joints, muscle, fascia, and nerves than bones. Getting “adjusted” means helping those joints move more freely so the brain can better talk to the muscles, organs and tissues in the body. But in the short term, getting you relief from pain might involve that and/or soft tissue (muscle and fascia) work to reduce trigger points and adhesions as well as strengthening and stretching regimes to balance muscles. And since it’s a full meal deal, nutrition is needed for optimal health too!
At Root Whole Body Health, we utilize a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare that is tailored to the individual patient. Your care will be co-managed with other healthcare professionals such as naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists, massage therapists and nutritionists as well as medical doctors and physical therapists. Our goal is to provide quality, safe, and effective healthcare to help patients achieve their optimum health and vitality.

Stefan M. Herold, DC
~Chiropractic Physician
Dr. Stefan Herold was born and raised in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. During his undergraduate work he studied biology and philosophy at the University of Minnesota. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and in 2002 he earned his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. In addition to chiropractic, Dr. Herold has received training in several other healing arts including training in Cranial Sacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute, acupuncture from Dr. Mai Nguyen at NWHSU and Qigong practice with instructor and publisher John DuCane.
Traditional chiropractic philosophy is based on four very basic scientific truths.
- The body has the ability to heal itself and fight disease. Biologists call this the Law of Homeostasis, also referred to as the innate intelligence of the body.
- The nervous system is the master control system of the human body. It controls and coordinates the function of all the body’s organs and tissues.
- Structure determines function. As any engineer can tell you, good design requires the right materials and the proper shape/form to ensure proper function. The human body is no different, and an alteration in the alignment or motion in a joint will have effects on the surrounding tissues and how well they work.
- Restoring proper alignment to a disorganized system will result in improved function. In the case of a person with a pattern of misalignment, chiropractic care restores nerve function, allowing the brain to control and coordinate the body free from interference. The result is improved health.
Dr. Stefan Herold combines the best of traditional chiropractic techniques with gentle, energetic approaches to restoring balance to the body.
While chiropractic care can benefit a wide range of health issues, Stefan particularly enjoys helping people of all ages with migraine and other headaches, injury recovery, reflux, TMJ and fibromyalgia.
Services:
Chiropractic Adjustments, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Energetic Healing, Detoxification/Cleansing, Massage/Trigger Point Therapy, Stretching, Exercise and Neuromuscular Re-Education as well as Physiotherapies to accelerate healing or reduce pain.
Dr. Herold also utilizes the most up to date (non-invasive and pain free) diagnostic scans to monitor the function of each patient’s nervous system by measuring imbalances in muscle activity and the nerves controlling the organs. This technology was originally developed by the space program to monitor the health of our astronauts, and has been further developed by researchers and clinicians to allow doctors to get the most accurate assessment of each patient’s individual status and their improvement over time.

Dr. Brenda Ku
~Chiropractic Physician, Clinic Director, Yoga Instructor
Dr. Ku believes finding a good doctor is difficult. Personality, trust, empathy, humor, and skill are just the tip of the iceberg in the list you probably have in choosing a doctor. She gets concerned when she hears about a bad experience that makes anyone hesitate about chiropractic. Dr. Ku hopes to give you a reason to not only keep coming back, but to take the chance to experience chiropractic care the way it’s supposed to be: as a integral role in achieving optimal health.
Dr. Ku’s approach is to listen to your needs and goals for getting you “better”. She’ll be honest with you about what she believes she can do for you. She’ll be honest with you about what YOU can do for you. In the process, Dr. Ku hopes you’ll find her caring, empathetic, passionate about your health, and even a little funny.
Dr. Ku’s diagnoses and treatments are integrative and evidence-based. Utilizing diversified adjustments (spinal & extremity), innovative soft tissue techniques, nutrition, rehabilitative exercises (including yoga & strength training), mobilization and patient education to help patients achieve peak performance, optimal health, and injury recovery.
Dr. Ku received her Doctorate in Chiropractic from University of Western States. She has certifications and training in soft tissue therapies: Graston Technique & Active Release Technique (ART); Kinesio Taping Technique; physical therapies like cold laser, IFC, & ultrasound; and nutritional supplementation. Dr. Ku earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Oregon and a Masters in Business in Marketing & Entrepreneurship from Boston College. Previously, she worked as a strategy manager at Intel for 10 years. Dr. Ku has taught yoga since 2004 after initially training with Baron Baptiste. She teaches power vinyasa, vinyasa, and yin yoga.
