3 Must-Have Foods for Spring

Root Whole Body food + nutrition

Spring is definitely in the air. The flowers are blooming, the buds are popping, and the grass is turning greener each day!  Spring is the time of year for growth and renewal and it is not only for the earth but for our bodies too. Here are a few must-haves to add to your daily diet this season:

Sprouts

Sprouts are a nutritional powerhouse. When you sprout grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, you are increasing the protein content and making the nutrients more easily digestible. Sprouts are a living food, even more alive than just a seed. And when you consume them you are eating all of that powerful life force!

Dark Leafy Greens

Dark leafy greens, such as kale, collards, dandelion, and arugula,  are some of the first produce to pop up in the spring. And just as nature would have it, they are essential to cleansing the body from winter’s heaviness and more lethargic rhythms. Dark leafy greens are packed full of essential nutrients, including Vitamins A, C, and K, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus and zinc. The bitter quality of dark leafy greens helps stimulate bile flow within the liver. This helps to cleanse waste from the organs and blood. Aim to eat at least 2-3 cups a day.

Radishes

Radishes  pungent taste and natural spiciness  may help to clear up excess mucus from lingering colds and spring allergies. Radishes are detoxifying and helpful at removing food stagnation. With their high water content, fiber, and vitamin C, they are a wonderful addition to keep you hydrated and healthy as the months grow warmer.
