Try this fun cooking experience with your kids!
Banana Roll Ingredients
peanut butter or plain yogurt
Instructions for cooking with kids:
- Talk to your child about whether bananas are a fruit or a vegetable and some of the common characteristics of each. Also talk about where peanut butter OR yogurt comes from. Plants or animals?
- Have the child peel the banana, and then use a butter knife to cut the banana width wise making banana discs.
- For the next step talk to the child about how to get PB/yogurt on the banana and how that helps the coconut to stick to the banana.
- Decide whether you are going to dunk the banana in PB/yogurt using a toothpick or whether you are going to use a spoon to put it on the banana.
- Once the bananas have PB/ yogurt on them let the child decide how to coat them in coconut. Are you going to make a big pile and toss the bananas in the pile ? are you going to put the coconut flat and roll the bananas through the coconut or are you going to sprinkle the coconut on ? Let them use their creativity.
- Praise the child for their problem solving and creativity skills. Enjoy this snack packed with protein and healthy fats!
