With Summer coming to an end and Fall quickly approaching, we are all getting back into our groove of scheduled life and activities. Students are back in school, flu season is creeping around the corner, seasonal sports are starting up, etc. With all the daily hustle and bustle, it is easy to forget about our overall health and wellbeing.

Root has some tips on taking the best care of yourself & your loved ones this season…

For Students and Athletes:

  • Nutrition is important

Start the day with protein to increase brain function throughout the day and avoid crashes. Eat the rainbow- pack lunches full of every color of the rainbow for a wide variety of nutrients

  • Stay active

Stagnancy is the enemy! Keep your body moving to increase blood flow- Consider morning yoga or stretching. Walk to school and enjoy the view instead of sitting in stressful traffic.

  • Get enough sleep

8 to 10 hours of sleep is recommended for optimum learning and brain function. Plus, did you know that getting enough sleep means your body can repair and heal itself and ward off infections? Be sure to turn off all electronics and distractions well before bedtime.

  • Take care of your body

Our talented chiropractors can conduct scoliosis checks and assist with physicals needed for sports teams, as well as support with active injuries. It is so important to stay in tune with your body! Did you know that Root offers a Whole Body Health Account membership for families?

For battling cold and flu season:

  • Consider an herbal approach

Natural herbs and spices found in your own kitchen can help battle the bugs of the flu season. Ginger can help you sweat out toxins, Garlic’s active ingredients are powerful antiviral and antioxidants that are great for fighting viruses and cayeanne pepper can clear sinuses in a snap! Or consider a medicinal tea blend like Urgent Care by Root Tonic and Tea (link)

  • Boost your immune system

Sickness often sets in when we are run down and when our immune system is low. Load up on vitamins that will give your immune system the boost it needs to fight sickness and get you back to feeling yourself.

– Vitamin C is one of the biggest immune system boosters of all. In fact, a lack of vitamin C can even make you more prone to getting sick.

– Vitamin B6 is vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system.  Vitamin B6-rich foods include chicken, green veggies and chickpeas.

– Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body fight off infection. Foods rich in vitamin E include nuts, seeds and spinach.

-Consider a vitamin booster injection by one of our naturopaths at your next visit.
