The benefits of Personal Yoga Instruction

While yoga classes are great to attend in that they build a sense of community and offer you the opportunity to learn from and with others, it can be difficult to address your specific needs while practicing within a large group of students. Private yoga sessions offer the ability to work one-on-one with an experienced teacher, who can focus every minute of the class on you and your desires for your yoga practice. A one-on-one yoga session can help you quickly get to the next level in your practice. In a group setting, the teacher has to keep an eye on and correct the entire class, which can be a LOT of people for one person to look after! During a private session, your teacher will be able to identify the exact skills and adjustments that are necessary in order for you to advance in your practice as quickly and as safely as possible.  This empowerment of moving forward and progressing in your practice can rekindle your enthusiasm for yoga, especially if you have been taking group classes for a long time, or have been practicing at home, and felt as though your practice hit a wall (it happens to even the best yogis from time to time!).

Also, a private class can be as customized as you want to suit your unique needs. For example, those with injuries can get the time they need to address which poses and modifications can be most beneficial and healing.  Serious runners can fine-tune a practice that will open their chest to enable deeper breathing, and can find poses that will lengthen their tight leg muscles.  Students with stress and anxiety issues can bask in a deep restorative practice created exactly for their personality. It’s all about you, and that’s okay!

One of the best parts of a private yoga class is that it will allow you to create a personal relationship with your teacher that cannot be found in large yoga classes.  Your teacher will have the opportunity to get to know the complete you – your body, your intention, your fears, your strengths, your blockages, etc. You get to ask any question that comes to mind, when it comes to mind.  In a private class, you can feel free to take a second to say ‘In this pose, I hurt here.  Why? How can we change that?’ In a group class many students do not want to draw attention to themselves or interrupt the flow of a class.
