Summer Skin Care Tips + Natural Sunscreen

As much as you may love soaking up the summer sun, you are probably aware enough to know that the UV rays that you are also soaking up can be incredibly damaging to your skin. Sun is the number one reason for skin damage.

But, before you slather on just any old sunscreen, make sure your sunscreen is natural and organic as well. Most commercial sunscreens contain super toxic ingredients or endocrine disrupting chemicals that in many cases – get this!- may actually promote skin cancer growth and free radical production in the body. In fact, in the years since sunscreen use began, skin cancer rates have actually increased dramatically!

That’s because most sunscreen products are jam packed with cancer-causing fragrance chemicals, parabens, harsh alcohols, toxic chemical solvents and nasty petroleum oils. A typical sunscreen product that you get from the store is actually a chemical assault on your body. Research shows that using sunscreen actually causes more cancer than it prevents: www.naturalnews.com/023317_skin_chemicals_products.html.

To keep your exposure damage from sun to a minimum, start by taking care of your body from the inside out. You can boost your internal resistance to sun damage and skin cancer by eating antioxidant-rich foods and super foods. The more natural antioxidants you have in your diet, the more sunlight your skin will be able to handle without burning. Having liberal amounts of Omega oils in your diet can also contribute to healthy skin.

In addition to common sense measures such as wearing a summery hat and sunglasses whenever possible, make sure to use a truly natural sunscreen, such as one from the Eminence Organic line we carry.  It is definitely a sunscreen that you can feel good about putting on your skin – once you begin using it, you will never go back to chemical-laden sunscreens ever again! And even better, this summer you can receive an Eminence Organic sunscreen moisturizer gift with purchase of $150 in skincare services or products. Expires end of Summer 2012.
