Toxins are everywhere. They’re in our air, water, soil, food, and therefore, in our bodies. Heavy metals from car exhaust, fertilizers, and phthalates leaching out from plastics are just a few of the things that have been shown to cause all sorts of disorders. The good news is our bodies are built to deal with toxins. Our livers, kidneys, lungs, blood and lymphatic systems are working to detoxify our bodies every day. The trouble is that we live in an environment that is so polluted, our bodies have trouble keeping up. A sedentary lifestyle, overeating or eating unhealthy foods can make things worse. There is no way to escape toxins, but you can limit your exposure by eating organic foods, and you can aid the detoxification process by getting nice and sweaty (power yoga anyone?) and drinking lots of water. You should also aim to keep dangerous toxins out of your home.
