Using Acupuncture for Stress Relief

Pain relief and acupuncture are known to go hand in hand, but stress relief closely follows in the list of benefits with acupuncture. Acupuncture is often used as a means of stress relief because it is painless, relaxing and alleviates many other symptoms of stress including things like headaches, backaches and neck pain. But how does acupuncture-an alternative and physical therapy-help with your emotional wellbeing?
Once again, we can look to the idea of Chi and energy flow in the body. In the case of stress relief, the theory goes that imbalances and blockages in the Chi are caused by various stressful events that in turn make you feel more stressed and sometimes ill. Acupuncture needles are inserted in key places where the blockages exist, breaks them up and then Chi can run smoothly again and you will feel more relaxed.

From a biological point of view, acupuncture works because it makes your brain release endorphins, the same ones that get released when you exercise. Endorphins are ‘feel good’ hormones that alleviate stress and help the body deal with pain. When you undergo an acupuncture session, endorphins are released, giving you a feeling of contentment, peace, and relaxation.  Acupuncture takes your feeling of ‘Om’ to a whole new level.
